Gone Fishin' (aka "Fun with Sea Kittens")
We took the Chum Squad fishing this weekend, but since we were after CATfish, I thought I'd take the opportunity to give PETA's new "sea kitten" term a try whilst describing the festivities.
In the interest of full-disclosure, "fishing" might be stretching the truth a bit. We were actually down at the city pool for the annual "Fishing Extravaganza," where hundreds of sea kittens are released for the hunting pleasure of the children. It wasn't hard to catch these adorable creatures, and we'd filled up our ice chest in barely an hour. Check out these photos:
Much to my surprise and delight, the kids were interested in learning how to filet (ah, I remember fileting MY first sea kitten). Skweegi even earned himself a man card.
A good time was had by all, and let me tell you, there's nothing so tasty as fresh sea kitten that you catch an eat in the same day!

Even though the late Gracie Fulton was not orignially from the Lone Star State, she was truly a Texan at heart. She told me more times than I can remember, "You Texans are so like Rhodesian farmers. We are all brothers and sisters." While we will miss her very badly, I'm thankful she was able to finish her wonderful book.
